He can still play in the UAAP next season if he wants to..
Will Kai Ballungay run it back with the Ateneo Blue Eagles? Decipher his Instagram post if you must.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles, who tried their hardest to defend their championship in UAAP Season 86, weren’t as stacked as the Tab Baldwin-mentored squads of the past. Despite this, Ballungay was still able to lead the hoopers from Katipunan to the Final Four.
But on Sunday, Ateneo’s wild ride saw its end after getting dethroned by the UP Fighting Maroons in the penultimate stage. Despite falling short, Ballungay reflected on their campaign with a positive view.
“Thank you to the Ateneo community & Blue Eagle Faithful for your uplifting support this season. This year has been a rollercoaster ride, but a blessing nonetheless,” the high-flying forward wrote on Instagram.
The path that the Blue Eagles took to get to the Final Four was full of trials and tribulations, even going through a drama-filled playoff game to qualify for the semifinals. But for the 21-year-old cager, he’d do it all over again.
“There’s no one I’d rather have gone to battle with every night than with my brothers. I love you all so very much,” Ballungay added.
Of course, his brothers in blue responded accordingly.
“An honor to fight alongside you my brother,” commented outgoing senior Sean Quitevis.
Rookie Kyle Gamber practically pointed to Kai as his role model.
“Thank you for being someone I can look up to,” said Gamber.
Geo Chiu, Jason Credo, and Josh Lazaro meanwhile, all made sure to remind Ballungay that they got his back.

It remains unclear if Ballungay will use his final year of eligibility with the Blue Eagles.
