Cams Victoria stepped up to the plate, leading Nxled in a straight-set 25-14, 25-23, 25-22 victory over Capital1 in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena Tuesday.

Victoria filled the void left by Lycha Ebon, who is recuperating from a “body problem,” and put up a game-high 17 points, built on 14 attacks and three kill blocks to emerge as the Player of the Game for the Chameleons.

“Lycha Ebon had a body problem that’s why we could not use Lycha [Ebon], that’s why we had to use Camille Victoria as an opposite, and then she got POG,” Nxled head coach Taka Minowa said.

For the 6-foot opposite hitter, who delivered her best performance in the season-opening conference to date, she simply wanted to repay the trust of the Japanese mentor.

“Kung ano lang yung binigay na role sakin ni coach Taka, yun naman yung gagawin ko at buo naman din yung tiwala niya sakin and ayun, nagawa ko naman yung role na binigay niya,” Victoria said.

Aside from her fine outing, Victoria was also pleased to see the Chameleons show resolve in the third set, where she and Ivy Lacsina took charge in a spirited comeback from a 2-11 deficit to thwart the Solar Spikers.

“‘Yung third set na yun, dun mo masasabi na lahat ng team lumalaban, hindi basta basta lahat ng mga team. Gaya nga ng sinabi ni Ivy na kaya kami nakahabol, parang mas tinapangan namin. Lumamang yung puso namin,” Victoria said.

Already out of contention, Victoria and the rest of the Chameleons, who possess a 4-6 record, are eager to finish their campaign strong when they attempt to upend the Petro Gazz Angels on April 27, Saturday.
