More and more pinoys make the NBA by way of coaching.
There’s no easy and sure path to the NBA for aspiring Filipino players. Just ask Kai Sotto, Japeth Aguilar, Ray Parks, and Kiever Ravena.
But Filipinos made it to the league by way of coaching.
Right now, there are at least two coaches of Filipino descent in the NBA: Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jimmy Alapag.
Turns out, there’s one more, who, will not as prominent as the aforementioned, has been making great strides in basketball’s mecca.
Meet Peter Fusilero.
A quick search on the internet reveals Fusilero is a player development and video coordinator for the Washington Wizards.
Fusilero linked up with Alapag, a Gilas Pilipinas hero and PBA legend. In an Instagram story on Thursday, he shared a picture of the two of them.
“Very few Filipinos in this coaching business and I’m thankful to call @jalapag3 a mentor and friend,” he wrote in the caption. “Manifesting giving back to the Philippines together through basketball one day!”
The Mighty Mouse reposted the said story with some words of encouragement.
“Keep going brother!!” Alapag said.

While it’s true that here’s no easy and sure path to the NBA for aspiring Filipino players, there’s no doubt one will come soon.
After all, there was no Filipino coach in the NBA until these three.
