Four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson put the cherry on top on a dream season with her second Finals MVP award in her career.
A’ja Wilson cemented her legacy as one of the best to play in the WNBA, as she won her second Finals MVP award after leading the Las Vegas Aces past the Phoenix Mercury to the WNBA title.
The Aces did so in a 4-0 sweep en route to their third championship in the last four WNBA seasons on Friday (Saturday, Manila time).
Wilson, who also won a record fourth WNBA Most Valuable Player this year, made history as she became the first player in the WNBA or the NBA to win the scoring title, the MVP, the Defensive Player of the Year, and the Finals MVP in the same year.
“Man, God is good. He’s been working on this team from the jump and for us to be able to celebrate this is truly special. We worked our butts off to get to this point,” said Wilson during her acceptance speech.
Wilson averaged a whopping 28.5 points on 48% shooting in the four-game series. She also normed a double-double with 11.8 rebounds and two blocks in the championship series.
Apart from drilling the go-ahead bucket in Game 3 which helped the Aces seize complete control of the series, Wilson also had a 31-point performance in the title clinching victory in Game 4. She also had nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three blocks.
Wilson thus helped Las Vegas establish themselves as a dynasty under the tutelage of head coach Becky Hammon.
Among Wilson’s biggest supporters in scoring was Chelsea Gray who also won her fourth WNBA title.
