Alex Eala’s first Roland Garros campaign came to an end in the second round of the women’s doubles, where she and partner Renata Zarazua fell to Anastasia Potapova and Olga Danilovic.
Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala saw her debut campaign in Roland Garros come to a close on Friday (PH time), following a second-round exit in women’s doubles of the 2025 French Open.
Eala and her Mexican partner Renata Zarazúa fell to the formidable duo of Anastasia Potapova of Russia and Olga Danilovic of Serbia, 1-6, 3-6, in a match that lasted just over an hour at Court 6.
Despite the early defeat, Eala’s campaign was one for the books.
On Tuesday, the 20-year-old made history by becoming the first Filipino woman to win a main draw match in a Grand Slam tournament. She and Zarazúa toppled the team of Great Britain’s Emily Appleton and Spain’s Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers, 7-5, 6-4, in the opening round.

In Friday’s match, Eala and Zarazúa struggled to find rhythm against the hard-hitting Potapova-Danilovic tandem, who fired 30 winners and capitalized on 21 unforced errors.
Down 0-4 early in the second set, the Eala-Zarazúa pair made a brief rally, taking two games to close the gap.
Eala also competed in the women’s singles draw but exited in the first round, losing after a hard-fought battle to Colombia's Emiliana Arango, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6.
Despite the results, Eala’s performance in Paris marks another significant milestone in her growing international career as she continues to pave the way for Philippine tennis on the global stage.
