Alas Pilipinas Men bowed to hosts Thailand in their high-stakes semifinal encounter in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
Alas Pilipinas Men could not replicate its historic semifinal victory against Thailand six years ago after bowing to the hosts in straight sets, 20-25, 19-25, 21-25, in the semifinals of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at the Indoor Stadium Huamark on Thursday, December 18.
Errors once again hounded Alas Men throughout the match as they failed to get past the Thais, led by middle blocker Kissada Nilsawai and spiker Anurak Phanram.
Leo Ordiales was the lone bright spot for Alas as Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo struggled to get past the Thailand blockers. However, the young NU spiker's performance was not enough to extend the match as the hosts cruised to a commanding victory.
Despite the loss, the Philippine squad will look to secure its first podium finish since 2019.
Alas Men will face Vietnam, which lost in a five-set battle against Vietnam, in the bronze medal match tomorrow, December 19.
