Seeking convincing win, NU dominates Adamson in straight sets

No five-set thrillers this time around as the National University Lady Bulldogs pounced on the Adamson University Lady Falcons on Wednesday, winning 26-24, 25-16, 25-22 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The straight-sets victory gives a boost to the volleybelles of Jhocson, who were looking for a convincing win against the girls of San Marcelino. In their Round 1 encounter, the defending champs needed five sets to dump the Lady Falcons, who even came a few points away from stealing the game.

"Siguro po meron din (extra motivation) kasi 'yun nga po dikit 'yung laban namin nung first round and kamuntikan pa po kaming matalo noon," said reigning MVP Bella Belen, who displayed NU's championship poise through her 20 points built on 18 attacks and 2 blocks.

"So, sinabi namin ngayon dapat 'yung win namin talagang maganda, talagang masasabi mong panalo po kami," she added.

The win is not only for NU to feel better, but to climb the standings.

With the triumph, the Lady Bulldogs have forced a three-way logjam at the second spot with the Lady Falcons and University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses. They all sport an identical 7-3 win-loss card.

"Pinaghandaan po kasi talaga namin ‘yung game na ito and sinet namin ‘yung goal namin na dapat ipanalo namin 'yung game na ito kasi kailangan na po naming manalo na eh," Belen added.

NU will look to continue their winning streak when they take on the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. On the same day, Adamson will look to bounce back against the winless University of the East Lady Warriors.
