Pending the PBA's approval, Mikey Williams will reportedly return to the league as a Converge FiberXer, while Jordan Heading will head to TNT Tropang 5G.
As far as Converge coach Franco Atienza is concerned, Jordan Heading is still a FiberXer.
Atienza had this to say after reports surfaced that the team is sending the former Gilas gunner to TNT for the signing rights of enigmatic Mikey Williams.
“Well, right now, the situation is Jordan is still with Converge,” said Atienza, whose squad has just completed a come-from-behind 117-103 win over Terrafirma in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup Wednesday, May 28.
Atienza neither confirmed nor denied the development, which will see the Tropang 5G plug in someone capable of filling the shoes left by injured stars Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac.
Before sitting out the team’s games this conference owing to back problems, Heading impressed and emerged as a Best Player of the Conference candidate in the Commissioner’s Cup.
If the deal pushes through, Atienza will have a two-time Finals MVP in Williams at his disposal on top of twin towers Justine Baltazar and Justin Arana as well as dynamic guards Alec Stockton and Schonny Winston.
“I don’t know the eventuality kasi that’s above my pay grade, eh. I don’t want to speculate on that,” the amiable mentor said.
“Kung sakaling may ganoon man, kung anong order naman sa'kin, susundin ko. Kung sinong player 'yong ilagay, we will find the best way how to synergize, how to meld them together.”
Until then, Atienza is focusing on the cards in his deck.
