The VNS-Nasty Griffins have eliminated the Maverick Hard Hitters, carving out a hard-earned victory in four sets, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15, in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena Friday night.

The Griffins brushed aside an opening-set hiccup, endured a tough challenge in the second, before blowing past the Hard Hitters in the last two to raise their record to 2-4 for sixth place.

Wewe Medina showed the way with a near double-double effort of 14 points and nine receptions.

Rocky Motol also made his presence felt on offense with 14 markers, while Kenneth Culabat flaunted his two-way prowess, collecting 13 points, 16 receptions, and six digs.

After splitting the first and second frames, the Griffins broke the game wide open in the third salvo, mounting a double-digit lead that doused the fire out of the Hard Hitters.

Maverick dropped to seventh place with a 1-4 card.

Jerome Cordez was the lone double-digit scorer for the Hard Hitters with a game-high 15 points.

Razzel Palisoc and France Racaza only managed nine and eight markers, respectively, in the losing cause.

VNS-Nasty guns for its third win when it tries to upend defending champion Cignal on April 24, Wednesday, at the Paco Arena.

Maverick, on the other hand, seeks to regain its winning ways when it takes on Savouge Aesthetics on April 21, Sunday, at the same venue.
