The two national teams proving to everyone that support is always welcome.
There were very familiar faces in the crowd as Gilas Pilipinas Women took on Australia on Monday in its opening assignment in the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in Sydney.
It shouldn't be a surprise. The Filipina cagers have put up stellar runs in recent years, earning them more supporters, which is always a welcome development for female sports in the Philippines.
Among the team's most recent admirers is the Philippine women's national football team. And the Filipinas were in full force supporting their basketball counterparts against Australia.
The Filipinas' official Instagram account shared a video of them cheering loudly from the bleachers, chanting "De-fense!" while animatedly waving little flags of the Philippines. It even looked like that star striker Sarina Bolden, who's usually the one being cheered on, was leading the charge.

While fans of basketball and football in the Philippines often argue online about the merits of each sport, here are the Filipinas, exemplifying once again that showing support is always better than sowing hate, especially when national teams are involved.

The Filipinas did the same for Gilas Pilipinas Women in the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia last month.
Bolden and company are also in Australia for the final stretch of their preparations for their much-anticipated historic debut in the FIFA Women's World Cup next month. And what better way to unwind and get a little breather from the intense training than by supporting their fellow Filipina athletes?
Even though Gilas Pilipinas Women got clobbered by Australia, 105-34, seeing the Filipina booters cheer for them should be a huge morale booster for the upcoming games.
Women supporting women. Always a pretty sight.
