Ildefonso will be sitting out UAAP Season 85.
Sometimes, the hardest battles are those outside the court.
On Instagram, Pia Ildefonso announced her decision to sit out this upcoming Season 85, leaving the Ateneo women’s volleyball team one key player short.
“Definitely the toughest decision I’ve made. Am choosing to face, fight, and grow through life’s battles outside the sport I love most,” said Ildefonso.
The 5-foot-9 sophomore did not explain further as to why she made the decision.
Ildefonso made her debut for Ateneo during UAAP Season 84. Despite playing limited minutes, the 20-year-old middle blocker showed immense potential.
Ildefonso then earned her spot in the team during Ateneo’s campaigns in the Shakey’s Super League and V-League. She also recently played for the Blue Eagles in women’s beach volleyball during UAAP Season 85.
While she won’t be on the court, Ildefonso said she’ll definitely be cheering on her teammates.
“God knows how much love I have for this bunch. Always thankful and forever grateful for this team, all the opportunities and blessings,” said Ildefonso. “Will always be rooting for you guys. Can’t wait to see you guys play your hearts out this season!”
