Slowly but surely, Jonna Perdido is regaining her form for the UST Golden Tigresses in UAAP Season 88.

One of just two players who are in their fifth and final playing year for UST, the wing spiker is making the most of her renewed vigor after recovering from an ACL injury on her left knee — causing her to miss all of last year.

Though she's still in the process of fully getting back on her feet, Perdido is upbeat on how she's getting along with the rest of the team.

Against the UE Lady Warriors on Saturday, February 28, she played her best game so far this season, scoring 10 points in a straight sets win.

"Nasa 8 (out of 10) kasi nabigyan po ako ng playing time ngayon na laro so thankful ako kay Coach Shaq [delos Santos] and this game, minindset ko lang na ilabas lang yung kung paano ako maglaro." Perdido said after the match.

Perdido's return didn't start out ideal, as the Golden Tigresses were dumped in their first two games of the season against the NU Lady Bulldogs and the DLSU Lady Spikers.

But since breaking through against the Ateneo Blue Eagles earlier this week, and now conquering UE via sweep, things are starting to look bright for the Golden Tigresses.

For Perdido in particular, it was a good chance to rake in some momentum.

"Malaking bagay po siya na nakuha ko yung kumpyansa ko nang dahan-dahan. So sa next game, I think magdo-double and triple effort pa ako,” she said.

In her comfort zone

Adding color to Perdido's breakout game was the fact that she did it in the Tigresses’ den.

In what was their first UAAP women's volleyball game at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, the familiar environment helped Perdido ease into her own game.

"Siguro, tinake advantage po namin yung homecourt and nilaro lang talaga namin kung paano kami maglaro as a team. So ayun, yun naman yung naging resulta, yung nanalo kami kasi yun yung goal this game,” she said.

UST returns to action on Saturday, March 7, against a promising Adamson Lady Falcons squad at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
