The UAAP will now give out green cards to reward honesty and integrity in Season 88.
Honesty and integrity will take center stage in the latest innovation by the UAAP for its upcoming volleyball tournament in the men’s and women’s collegiate division.
Commissioner Mike Verano unveiled that the league will now have green cards to reward a team or player’s honesty in moments of the game. A similar principle has already been implemented before in the PVL.
"First and foremost, the most important innovation that we'll be implementing this season 88 is the implementation of the green card,” said Verano.
“This will reward the student-athletes with their honesty and sportsmanship and it will also be a requirement or a criteria which will honor them at the end of the season with a sportsmanship award. So, that's the main innovation that I plan to implement this season," he added.
The PVL also likewise has a sportsmanship award in its end-of-conference plums. The criteria are based on the most number of green cards accumulated during the tournament.
Verano’s latest innovation is set to complement the challenge system which is used to review official calls during games.
The UAAP Season 88 men’s and women’s volleyball tournament unfolds this weekend with marquee matchups headlining Valentine’s Day weekend at the Mall of Asia Arena.
