One Final Four contender is out.

Ateneo took out a playoff rival on Sunday, with the Blue Eagles scoring a crucial 72-61 win over the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the second round of UAAP Season 88 at the MOA Arena.

The win pushed Ateneo to 6-7, still in contention for the Final Four. Meanwhile, Adamson finished the year with a 6-8 record and will be one win short of making the semifinals.

Four Blue Eagles were in double figures as Ateneo controlled most of the game, leading by as many as 26 points.

Dom Escobar had 14 points to lead the way, while Waki Espina and Kymani Ladi added 13 each.

Adamson got 24 points from Matty Erolon for the team’s final game of the season.

As it stands, Ateneo will be in a do-or-die match against idle La Salle (7-6) to close out the elimination round.

Also in contention for the two Final Four slots remaining are UST (7-5) and FEU (6-7).
