The UAAP is postponing most of its activities scheduled on Sunday, November 9, as a precaution for the devastating effects of Typhoon Uwan, which is expected to bring heavy rains and severe winds to most of the country until early Tuesday.
With leagues postponing games left and right, including the PBA, the country’s premier collegiate league will hold off on holding its basketball, football, and high school volleyball games which are set in Metro Manila to ensure the safety of all those involved.
As of the November 8, 5:00 p.m. weather forecast, Metro Manila is already under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #2.
Basketball games scheduled on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum include the rivalry match between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the DLSU Green Archers in men’s and women’s basketball.
Season hosts UST Growling Tigers were also scheduled to take on the FEU Tamaraws.
“The safety of our student-athletes, coaches, officials, fans, and everyone involved is our top priority. We strongly advise everyone to take all necessary precautions, stay indoors if possible, and ensure the safety of your family and loved ones during this severe weather event.” said the UAAP’s announcement which was released early Saturday evening.
At the moment, the basketball tournament is deep into the second round with teams vying for Final Four spots in all divisions.
Games are expected to be rescheduled on a later date.
