The FEU Tamaraws were not about to fall victim to the Adamson Soaring Falcons, hacking out a gutsy overtime win in UAAP Season 88.
The FEU Tamaraws recovered in the extra period to take a close finish over the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 73-70, in their second round encounter in UAAP Season 88 at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
Holding a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, FEU saw themselves fall victim to the late-game heroics of Ray Allen Torres, who keyed Adamson’s run late in regulation.
However, Kirby Mongcopa blocked a three-point try from Adamson’s Monty Montebon with 18 ticks left in the extra period to stop the Soaring Falcons in their tracks.
Despite only making one of four free throws late in the game, Mongcopa did just enough to force Adamson into a desperation three-pointer with a last second heave from Montebon, which helped seal the victory for the Tamaraws.
Mongcopa finished with a double-double of 11 points and 17 rebounds to lead FEU’s charge.
FEU, who improved to 4-6, also stopped Adamson’s winning run as the Falcons fell to an even 5-5.
