UST makes it three wins in a row as the Growling Tigers turned back the hard-charging FEU Tamaraws, claiming a share of the top spot with NU in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament.
UST pulled away late as the Growling Tigers hammered out a 92-80 victory against the pesky FEU Tamaraws, rolling to a third straight win in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, October 15.
With the Growling Tigers leading 82-80 under four minutes remaining, reigning Player of the Week Gelo Crisostomo sank two crucial three-pointers during a pivotal 10-0 run that extended the Growling Tigers’ lead to 90-80.
That was the separation UST needed to improve to 5-1 and a tie for the top spot with the NU Bulldogs.
Kyle Paranada uncorked a team-high 19 points to pace the Growling Tigers while Nic Cabañero and Crisostomo added 14 apiece.
Janrey Pasaol topscored FEU with 22 points as the Tamaraws got outscored 10-0 in the final 4:01 of regulation and slipped to 1-5.
UST aims for a four-game winning streak when the Growling Tigers clash with Adamson (2-4) on Saturday, October 18.
Meanwhile, the Morayta-based Tamaraws take on the winless UE Red Warriors (0-6) in their final outing of the opening round of eliminations.
