Cheska Apag and the Adamson Lady Falcons shake off a third quarter rally from the UE Lady Warriors to secure their second win of UAAP Season 88 women's basketball.
The Adamson Lady Falcons (2-3) earned their second win of the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament, 54-43, holding off a late rally from the UE Lady Warriors (0-4) on Saturday, October 11, at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.
Despite only playing 17 minutes due to foul trouble, Cheska Apag led the Lady Falcons with 13 points from five-of-nine field goals, four rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Adamson dominated early, racing to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter before clamping down defensively in the second.
The Lady Falcons limited UE to just two points in the entire second period—both from the free-throw line—to take a 28-10 halftime advantage.
That is the lowest output in a quarter by any team in Season 88 women's basketball. This eclipses the five points by UP in the 95-58 loss to NU, and UE's output against UST, both on October 4.
UE showed signs of life in the third quarter, finally finding rhythm to cut into the deficit, but Adamson still held a 42-29 cushion heading into the final frame.
The Lady Warriors continued to fight, pulling within 32-48 with five minutes left to play, but the Lady Falcons held firm to secure the victory.
Brianna Bajo was also noteworthy for Adamson. Despite only scoring two points, she was everywhere for the Lad Falcons with 11 rebounds, five assists, and three steals for a +/- of 32.
With the win, Adamson improved to 2-2 in the standings, while UE remained winless.
The Lady Falcons will next face UST on Wednesday, October 15, while the Lady Warriors take on La Salle on the same day.
