The winning growl is back in España.

Riding on a dominant third quarter, the UST Growling Tigers overwhelmed the UE Red Warriors, 111-99, in their UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball showdown at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on Saturday, October 4.

UST put the pedal to the metal via a 24-12 third salvo, building a commanding 83-67 cushion entering the final frame and never looked back. The Tigers improved to 3-1 with the win.

Nic Cabañero paced the Growling Tigers with 22 points as Collins Akowe bullied his way to a 18-point, 17-rebound double-double on top of three blocks.

Meanwhile, John Abate fired 27 markers in for UE, who remained winless at 0-4 as head coach Chris Gavina continues his search for a first UAAP victory.

UST takes on unbeaten Ateneo next on Saturday, October 11, while UE tangles with the Adamson on the same day.
