It’s a quick turnaround for former Adamson cager Jed Colonia, returning to the school’s basketball program as the new head coach of the Lady Falcons for UAAP Season 88.

Last suiting up for Adamson back in Season 86, Colonia made a comeback to San Marcelino during the offseason, where he replaced Ryan Monteclaro as the head tactician for the women’s team.

Coming off of a bronze medal run in UAAP Season 87, the Lady Falcons will now lean on the rookie coach.

For him, the appointment was something that came as a complete surprise, especially since he doesn’t have much experience at the sidelines.

“First reaction ko basically was shocked. I thought for myself that I wasn’t ready for it. I had a bit of experience in Cebu, coaching 15-under kids for my high school alma mater as well. But, I really thought I was not ready for coaching the women’s team, that as a head coach,” Colonia said during an episode of One Sports’ Play by Play.

“So it was really a shocking moment. First message of Fr. Aldrin [Suan] was asking ‘Are you ready to coach?’ and I was hesitant to answer but it is what it is and you need to answer the call of duty as well,” he added.

Despite his reservations, Colonia said that it wasn’t too hard to take on the role.

“[It was my] pure love for basketball,” said Colonia of his reasons on agreeing to the position.

Of course, there’s also a lot to gain for Colonia with this first head coaching gig in the UAAP. Flanked by capable players like Elaine Etang, Cheska Apag, and Kemi Adeshina, Colonia will have a formidable arsenal when he tests the waters in UAAP Season 88.

At the end of the day, Colonia wants to bring glory to the Adamson name. After doing it as a player, he now has the chance to do it in a coaching capacity.

“It feels like coming home and in a way, somehow giving back and it’s like a jumpstart to my coaching career as well,” he said.
