Despite helping power the DLSU Green Archers to an unbeaten 6-0 sweep of the Playtime Cares 18th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup group stage, Mason Amos isn’t getting carried away.

Fresh off an 18-point performance in La Salle's 94-86 win over the UST Growling Tigers on Wednesday, July 9, the Gilas Pilipinas forward made it clear that his focus remains on development rather than accolades.

With Season 88 just a few months away, Amos is taking the preseason tilt all the more seriously to develop his game further.

“Actually, being honest with myself, I still have a lot to improve,” Amos said. “Even though I’ve made quite an improvement, I still see more areas where I can grow.”

“That’s really what I’m focused on right now—not just the UAAP ahead, but also the little steps to becoming the best version of myself,” he added.

Amos tied teammate Kean Baclaan for team-high scoring honors as La Salle clinched the top spot in the UAAP group, while UST settled for second at 4-2.

Since joining DLSU following his shock exit from longtime rivals, Ateneo Blue Eagles, Amos has emerged as a key weapon for the Topex Robinson-led squad.

But even with the bigger role placed upon him, the Fil-Am standout isn’t putting himself above the team.

“To be honest, on any given day, it could be anybody,” he said. “I’m just playing my role, staying in my lane, and bringing what I can bring for the team.”

With a deep roster and plenty of returning firepower, La Salle is expected to make another serious title run this Season 88 after their runner-up finish a year prior.

For now, Amos and the Green Archers will turn their attention to the Arellano Chiefs in the quarterfinals of the FilOil tournament.
