Shaq Delos Santos returns as UST head coach for UAAP Season 88, 15 years after leading the Golden Tigresses to their last title.
Shaq Delos Santos is officially back at the helm of the UST Golden Tigresses, marking his return as head coach ahead of UAAP Season 88.
Delos Santos’ reappointment comes 15 years after leading the Golden Tigresses to their last women’s volleyball championship in UAAP Season 72.
The announcement was made by the UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA), with Delos Santos set to handle the coaching reins concurrent with his role as head coach of the Cignal HD Spikers in the PVL.
His return signals UST's renewed push to reclaim its storied status in collegiate volleyball, looking to draw inspiration from the program’s last title run.
The shake-up also marks the end of Kungfu Reyes’ 10-year tenure as head coach of the Golden Tigresses.
Reyes’ run was highlighted by two Finals appearances: a Cinderella finish in Season 81 led by MVP Sisi Rondina, and a breakthrough campaign in Season 86 with Rookie of the Year Angge Poyos and Detdet Pepito leading the way.
Despite stepping down from his post, Reyes will continue to serve as UST’s program director for women’s and girls’ volleyball, while also remaining as head coach of the Junior Tigresses.
As the Golden Tigresses usher in a new chapter with Delos Santos back in command, expectations will be high for a proud program that has long been searching for a return to the summit of UAAP volleyball.
