UST continues to rule the UAAP general championship, extending its reign in both the seniors and juniors division.
The University of Santo Tomas once again lorded over the competition, becoming the runaway general champions for both the collegiate and high school divisions of the recently-concluded UAAP Season 87.
UST now has 48 general championships in the seniors division, and another 24 titles in the high school ranks. The Growling Tigers blew the rest of the league out of the water thanks to their consistent performances across different sports in both divisions.
In collegiate play, UST garnered 346 points, taking a hefty lead against second placers and hosts UP at 269 points. La Salle was third in the standings, trailing the Fighting Maroons only by eight points with 261.
Over in the high school division, UST ran away with the victory with 313 points.
The España-based squad were more than a 100 points clear of their closest rival La Salle with 167.
UST’s win drew the curtain on UAAP Season 87, where Rookie of the Years and MVPs from the various sports were also honored.
During the closing ceremony, Season 87 hosts UP also turned over the hosting duties to UST.
UST unveiled the theme for Season 88 dubbed “Strength in Motion, Hope in Action.”
“[The theme] embodies the deeper meaning of competition: not solely to achieve victory, but to inspire transformation — of oneself, of teams, and of greater community,” UST said in a statement.
