The UAAP closes the curtains on an unforgettable Season 87 with a grand closing ceremony on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, highlighted by the awarding of the season’s General Champions, Athletes of the Year, and the official turnover of hosting duties from the University of the Philippines to the University of Santo Tomas.

The festivities kick off at 3:00 p.m. with the Streetdance Competition.

Season 87 was absolute cinema.

It opened last September with an electrifying performance from the legendary OPM band Eraserheads and concluded with a historic men’s volleyball finale last Saturday, where a record-breaking crowd of 14,517 witnessed National University complete a five-peat over Far Eastern University.

The Bulldogs also secured their second straight golden double in volleyball, as both the men’s and women’s squads clinched back-to-back titles.

In basketball, the UP Fighting Maroons reclaimed the men’s crown, while the NU Lady Bulldogs completed their redemption arc in the women’s division.

Historic moments were aplenty in the juniors division as well.

University of the East ended a 39-year basketball title drought in winning the junior high school boys division, while UST broke a 24-year dry spell with its Tiger Cubs finally winning the boys basketball championship.

UST also halted FEU-Diliman’s dominance in boys’ football.

Boys’ football saw a major development this season with the inclusion of guest schools for the first time, as Southridge and Claret joined the competition, adding more depth and excitement to the tournament.

In girls volleyball, the Lady Bullpups regained the throne, but the Junior Golden Spikers continued their reign in the boys division—preventing NU from sweeping all four volleyball titles this season.

On the sand court, it was a showcase of NU and UST supremacy.

NU’s women’s and girls’ beach volleyball teams captured their first-ever titles, while UST's men’s and boys’ squads came out on top in their respective divisions.

FEU maintained its golden reputation in collegiate football, once again topping both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

UST made history in table tennis, pulling off a rare sweep of all four divisions—a first in league history.

In the esports arena, La Salle dominated the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and VALORANT events, while Ateneo defended its crown in NBA2K for the second consecutive season.

Meanwhile, the NU Pep Squad clinched its eighth cheerdance championship, tying the UP Pep Squad and UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe for the most titles in UAAP history.

For the first time ever, five Athletes of the Year will be honored: a high school individual athlete, a high school team sport athlete, a college individual athlete, and male and female collegiate team sport athletes—recognizing excellence across a broader spectrum of sports and divisions.

The closing ceremony will also recognize the season’s Athlete Scholars and student-athletes who excelled in international competitions.

Capping the program, UP President Atty. Angelo “Jijil” Jimenez formally turns over the UAAP flag to UST President Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P.
