Vange Alinsug and Shaira Jardio were named co-Finals MVPs after powering the NU Lady Bulldogs to a dominant sweep of the DLSU Lady Spikers, clinching back-to-back UAAP titles in Season 87.
The NU Lady Bulldogs sealed their dominance in UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball with a championship sweep—and it came with not one, but two heroes leading the charge.
Vange Alinsug and Shaira Jardio were named co-Finals Most Valuable Players after powering NU to a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 Game 2 victory over the DLSU Lady Spikers at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday, May 14.
This marks the first time in league history that two Finals MVPs were recognized.
Alinsug was NU’s offensive firestarter throughout the series, firing 21 points in Game 1 and following it up with 10 markers in the closeout Game 2.
The 22-year-old winger constantly applied pressure on La Salle’s defense and provided consistent scoring alongside Bella Belen.
On the other end, Jardio anchored the Lady Bulldogs’ floor defense with a Finals series to remember.
She recorded a staggering 18 excellent digs and 18 excellent receptions in Game 1, then delivered 21 digs and 12 receptions in Game 2 to stifle the Lady Spikers’ attack.
Their tandem of firepower and composure helped NU dominate La Salle across the two-game series, becoming the first team since the Lady Spikers’ own three-peat in Seasons 78–80 to win back-to-back titles in the women’s division.
The Lady Bulldogs, who also won the championship in Season 84, now solidify their place as the league’s newest dynasty, with a growing core and the Finals MVPs leading the next era of NU excellence.
