Mikole Reyes, younger sister of three-time UAAP champion Mika Reyes, is in the process of getting comfortable in her role as a rookie with the DLSU Lady Spikers.
La Salle rookie Mikole Reyes is slowly but surely getting the hand of finding her niche with the DLSU Lady Spikers, easing into her role as setter in UAAP Season 87.
With much of the attention latching on to her owing to her family name, Reyes has since proved that she’s not just the sister of three-time UAAP champion and La Salle legend Mika Reyes.
In the Lady Spikers’ four-set win over the UE Lady Warriors on Saturday, Reyes notched 23 excellent sets to go along with three points for one of her stronger games of the year.

After the victory, Reyes said that she has gotten used to the comings and goings of UAAP life.
“Unti-unti naman siya [and] every game naman po naf-feel ko na din po na parang nagagamay ko naman na yung [gagawin],” said Reyes.
“Lalo na with the help of the ates, sila din po yung tumutulong sa akin. Sinasalo din nila ako sa mga times na medyo off din ako.”
Still, Reyes believes that there is still a lot of room to grow, especially as she learns from older teammates and coaches, like fellow setter Julyana Tolentino.
“Syempre, confident pa rin ako na may ilalabas pa po ako,” she said.
“Kasi sa game na to, kita padin naman talaga yung mga lapses ko as a setter, and, tiwala lang din po talaga sa sarili and sa mga kasama po para tuloy tuloy yung progress,” she continued.
Meanwhile, as far as assistant head coach Noel Orcullo is concerned, the setters, including Reyes, are heading into the right direction as La Salle hopes to slowly build its stride in UAAP Season 87. Scoring their first win streak of the year is a great place to start.
“So far, sa nagiging takbo naman ng laro namin, nandoon naman nakukuha naman, nakakasunod naman kung ano yung gusto namin mangyari. Yun nga lang, may mga time na nagre-relax at the same time minsan nawawala, na-out of focus,” said Orcullo.
“Yun lang [kailangan trabahuhin].” he added.
Reyes’ next test will come in the form of her first-ever Ateneo-La Salle game in the seniors division as DLSU tangles with its long-time rival on Wednesday, March 12, still at the Mall of Asia Arena.
