This Mother’s Day, these volleyball aces celebrate their mom's MVP moments on and off the court.

So, let’s trade in our game faces in favor of laughs and giggles as these UAAP standouts reminisce about their funny childhood moments with their beloved Nanay’s.

Magic Hanger

A woman of few words—this is how NU’s Buds Buddin described his mama. But beware, because inside a silent lady is a deadly weapon—none other than the magic hanger.

“Sa’kin wala siyang sinasabi, eh. Once na nakita kong may hawak siyang hanger sa kamay, talagang stop na ‘ko! Ayoko na!” he jokingly said.

Pogi mo ‘nak labyu

Before becoming a star setter, Owa Retamar was already a star in the eyes of his number one fan, aka his mama.

“Sa’kin kasi lagi niyang sinasabi, sinisigaw niya pa nga, eh, 'Owa ang pogi pogi mo! ‘Di ba? Ba’t gano’n?'” he playfully said.

Agree naman kami, Owa!

Umuwi ka na!

Young Gboy De Vega was not a good boy, according to him. But just like all moms, his mother always made sure to set him straight.

“No’ng bata kasi ako, pasaway kasi ako, eh. Ang naaalala ko sa nanay ko na palagi niyang sinasabi, ‘pag late na ako umuwi ay Gboy umuwi ka na! Gabi na! Mapapalo kita!” he playfully narrated.

Pro tip: Magtago ng bato sa bulsa para hindi mapagalitan!

Trust me, been there, done that. Kidding!

Umayos ka!

Josh Ybañez described himself as “makulit” growing up.

Parang hindi naman, Josh. Sample nga!

And her mom, being a disciplinarian, is always reminding the MVP to be orderly.

“As [a] makulit na anak, laging pinapaalala sa akin ni mama, ‘pag nakukulitan siya or may something siyang nakikita sa akin, since she’s a Bisaya, she’s a Cebuano, and she’s having a hard time na magsalita ng Tagalog, lagi niyang sinasabi sa akin na Josh pagtarog dira ayaw pagkiat-kiat that means parang umayos ka. ‘Wag kang masyadong malikot, parang alam mo 'yon, ganyan,” Josh said

Cool Mama

Not all moms are strict enforcers of rules. Sometimes, they are more chill, just like Bella’s nanay, who became her ride-or-die bestie.

“Laging si Daddy ang nagsusuway sa amin. Si Mommy kasi ‘yong parang ka-buddy sa kalokohan. Sa ganyan, kay Mommy kami lumalapit,” she said.

Whatever type of mom you have, whether it’s a strict mom, a laid-back mom, or a mom with a flying hanger, every one of them deserves recognition, not just this Mother’s Day but every day. Because every day is Nanay's day.
