Many times during UST’s sensational four-set conquest of defending champion De La Salle to end the elimination round of UAAP Season 86, star rookie Angge Poyos felt the love from the ever-supportive Thomasian community.

The love came in the form of “MVP” chants.

It was well-deserved, as Poyos certainly made her case to be the third-straight Rookie-MVP UAAP women’s volleyball has ever seen.

But while her actually winning MVP remains to be seen, Poyos being the UAAP’s most valuable is not an award she’s actively chasing.

The star rookie knows what’s actually most valuable for UST.

“No expectation naman na makuha ko [MVP] award, bonus na lang siguro kung makuha ko,” Poyos said.

“Basta ang importante is ‘yung championship, ‘yun talaga pinaka-unang goal namin,” she added.

Towards the end of the Season 86 elimination round, UST’s path to the title appeared to be murky, a perfect 8-0 start turning complicated as the Golden Tigresses figured in three-way ties for first with the Lady Spikers and the NU Lady Bulldogs.

But UST’s key win over the champs simplified things a bit, although simple does not meany easy.

The Golden Tigresses will face the Lady Spikers again, but this time in the Final Four and with a twice-to-beat advantage. One win is all they need to make the Finals for the first time since Season 81.

“Sobrang Sayan po kasi nakuha namin twice-to-beat,” Poyos said.

“Talagang nag-trabaho kami lahat, pinag-sipagan namin lahat. Nangibabaw puso at tapang namin,” she added.
