The defending champions University of the Philippines, UAAP kings De La Salle University, and NCAA ruler San Beda University headline the 2024 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, which kicks off on May 11 with a total of 18 teams competing.

This edition boasts a full roster, including all eight UAAP teams and all ten NCAA teams, as they gear up for their respective upcoming seasons.

The defending champions, UP Fighting Maroons, led by JD Cagulangan and Francis Lopez under coach Goldwin Monteverde, are among the top contenders.

However, their rivals, the Green Archers of La Salle, coached by Topex Robinson, are determined to challenge for the title with UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao, Mike Phillips, and Jonnel Policarpio leading the charge.

San Beda, keen to reclaim their elite status, will showcase Bryan Sajonia alongside NCAA Finals MVP James Payosing, under the guidance of coach Yuri Escueta.

Teams will be grouped according to their respective leagues, with the UAAP group comprising UP, La Salle, Ateneo, Adamson, FEU, National U, UE, and UST. San Beda will feature in the NCAA group alongside Arellano, Benilde, EAC, JRU, Letran, LPU, Mapua, Perpetual, and San Sebastian.

The tournament format includes single-round robin eliminations, with the top four from each group advancing to the crossover playoffs.

Commissioners Joe Lipa and Bert dela Rosa, along with tournament director Bennett Palad, media head and consultant Virgil Villavicencio, and marketing and finance head Diana Layug, are at the helm of organizing the event.

Additionally, the Hanes 1-on-1 King of the Hardcourt tournament makes a return this year.
