The NU Lady Bulldogs finally overcame the DLSU Lady Spikers for a thrilling four-set victory in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday, April 14.
National University ended its five-game losing skid against De La Salle University as the Lady Bulldogs bulldozed their way to a four-set victory, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22, in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, April 14.
In front of 11,414 spectators, the Lady Bulldogs continued their undefeated run in the second round, overcoming a shaky first set which saw them commit 11 errors, giving the early lead to the Lady Spikers.
But still without reigning MVP Angel Canino, De La Salle couldn't capitalize on Shevana Laput's hot start, allowing NU to slowly take control.
In the fourth set, the Lady Spikers started off strong after a 4-0 run, which was quickly erased by the Lady Bulldogs behind Vange Alinsug.
Tied at 19-all, La Salle committed back-to-back errors to give NU a two-point lead. Thea Gagate, however, tied the game once more after two-straight quick attacks.
But in the clutch, Alinsug came alive scoring the Lady Bulldogs' 22nd and 23rd points, before Baby Jyne Soreno's attack sailed wide to give NU its match point. The Lady Bulldogs cashed it in for the win.
Alinsug finished with a game-high 22 points built on 20 attacks, one block, and one service ace, allowing NU to grab a share of first place with a 10-2 record. But should there be a triple-tie, the Lady Bulldogs are ahead in points over idle UST, as the Golden Tigresses slide to no. 2.
Bella Belen added 16 points to go along with 14 excellent receptions for NU, while Solomon contributed 13 in the win.
DLSU dropped to 9-2 with the loss for third place.
