Close race: 6 key games that could decide Final Four slots in UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball

The UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament is reaching its conclusion, with several teams vying for the coveted Final Four slots. With the standings as tight as ever, each game becomes crucial in determining which teams will advance to the next stage of the competition. 

Let's take a closer look at six key matchups that could shape the fate of the teams involved:

1. UST Golden Spikers vs. Adamson Soaring Falcons (April 3)

The Golden Spikers narrowly defeated the Soaring Falcons in their first encounter of the season, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10, showcasing the intensity of their rivalry. 

With UST (5-4) just half a game above Adamson (4-4), their rematch is a huge swing game in the Final Four race as round 2 resumes following the Holy Week break.

 

2. UST Golden Spikers vs. FEU Tamaraws (April 13)

In their previous meeting, the Tamaraws emerged victorious against the Golden Spikers after a grueling five-set match, 28-26, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13.

With UST seeking redemption and consistency, and FEU aiming to maintain its momentum for a top-2 finish, this rematch will undoubtedly be a clash of titans.

 

3. NU Bulldogs vs. DLSU Green Spikers (April 14)

The Bulldogs secured a hard-fought four-set victory against the Green Spikers in their first encounter, 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21.

De La Salle, however, is determined to turn the tables this time as the Green Spikers look to prove they can beat the defending champions and put themselves in the title contention this season.

 

4. DLSU Green Spikers vs. Ateneo Blue Eagles (April 21)

La Salle emerged victorious against Ateneo in their initial face-off, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11.

But with the season winding down, the rivalry match is expected to be crucial for both teams in the hopes of securing a Final Four spot.

 

5. NU Bulldogs vs. FEU Tamaraws (April 24)

The Bulldogs escaped with a five-set victory against the Tamaraws in their first-round encounter, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 18-16. 

FEU, currently with a 7-1 record, will look to maintain its top spot in the standings and a win over NU could cement that. The Bulldogs, who boast a 7-2 record, are also looking to secure their spot at the top of the standings.

Expect nothing less than another action-packed match between the top two teams in the tournament.

 

6. DLSU Green Spikers vs. UST Golden Spikers (April 27)

In their first meeting of the season, the Green Spikers emerged victorious against the Golden Spikers in straight sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.

Being this will be the last game of the season, a lot will be on the line should both teams still be alive for a Final Four contention.

Fans can expect that this UST-La Salle rematch will be more than just three sets.
