With the end of the first round of the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament fast approaching, the competition has intensified as teams vie for the top spots in the standings.

Players continue to showcase their skills and determination with each game, striving to lead their teams to victory.

Here are the five best performers that impressed many fans during the past week.

1. Bella Belen (National University)

Bella Belen’s scoring performances for the Lady Bulldogs should come as no surprise.

But it’s her defense that has been vital for NU's success amid the Lady Bulldogs' five-game winning streak.

In their game versus the FEU Lady Tamaraws last Wednesday, March 6, Belen finished with 19 points off 15 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces, to go along with 19 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions.

The former Rookie-MVP in Season 84 then followed that up with 11 points, 10 digs, and five excellent receptions against the UE Lady Red Warriors.

Is another MVP award coming up for Belen?

2. Angge Poyos (University of Santo Tomas)

Super rookie Angge Poyos continues to deliver for the Golden Tigresses.

In UST’s lone game this past week, Poyos finished with a career-high 26 points, built on 20 attacks, two blocks, and three service aces, against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in just three sets.

With the Golden Tigresses still undefeated in Season 86, a big part of their success comes from the 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Bohol.

3. Angel Canino (De La Salle University)

Despite having a 5-1 record to start Season 86, it hasn’t been the type of performance that coach Ramil De Jesus would have wanted from his team.

But one player that has been consistent for the champs has been Reigning MVP Angel Canino.

Against UE, Canino put up 17 points along with nine digs and seven receptions. She then had 16 points built on 13 attacks, two blocks, and one ace against the UP Fighting Maroons.

Expect Canino to go all out in their upcoming match against NU on Saturday, March 16.

4. Gerzel Petallo (Far Eastern University)

The Lady Tamaraws went 1-1 in the past week, dropping their match versus NU last Wednesday before dominating the Adamson Lady Falcons last Saturday.

In both of those games, Gerzel Petallo had steady figures for FEU as she finished with 17 points, 14 excellent receptions, and eight digs versus NU, while putting up 12 markers against Adamson.

It’s clear that Petallo has made the jump in Season 86 as the Lady Tamaraws look to end the first round on a solid note.

5. Alyssa Solomon (National University)

Another Lady Bulldog is added to the list after their dominant run the past week.

During their four-set win over FEU, it was Alyssa Solomon who did most of the work as she finished with a game-high 25 points on 21 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace, while also adding seven excellent digs.

Despite having a rather quiet game versus UE last Sunday, Solomon has proven time and time again that when needed, she will deliver for NU.

Week 4 will prove to be another jam-packed week.

In the upcoming matches, the UST Golden Tigresses will face off against the UP Fighting Maroons, while the Ateneo Blue Eagles will compete against the Adamson Lady Falcons to start Week 4 on Wednesday, March 13.

You can catch these games on One Sports, the UAAP Varsity Channel, and the Pilipinas Live app.
