Angge Poyos and the University of Santo Tomas repulsed University of the East, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22, to secure their second straight victory in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Poyos detonated 19 attacks, fired three aces and put up two blocks for a game-high 24-point outburst that helped the Espana-based squad ollow up on their opening game win over National University the last time out.

The rookie also tallied 11 excellent receptions on the defensive end.

The Golden Tigresses bucked an opening-set hiccup before kicking their offense into high gear in the succeeding frames to turn back the Lady Warriors, who slid to 1-1 after an impressive opening win over Ateneo last Saturday.

"Yung game talagang no joke, hindi ka puwedeng magpabaya kasi gugulatin ka ng UE, especially noong first set, sila ang nag-pace ng game," said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes.

Staring down a 20-23 deficit in the fourth set, rookie Casiey Dongallo starred for UE as she swung consecutive blows to bring her squad to within 22-23.

However, Regina Jurado restored order for UST before Poyos nailed the match-clinching hit.

Jurado delivered 16 points and eight excellent digs, while Xyza Gula and Mary Banagua contributed 10 and nine markers, respectively.

Dongallo turned in another stellar performance for the Lady Warriors, coming up with 23 points and 13 digs. But it was not enough to give the Recto-based team a win this time around.

KC Cepada and Riza Nogales provided Dongallo chipped in 10 points apiece for UE.

UST will thus gun to make it three in-a-row when it tangles with La Salle even as the Lady Warriors eye a bounce-back win when it collides with Far Eastern University on Sunday, Feb. 25.
