It’s always been a tough call between these two.
Who’s better, Kiefer Ravena or Jeron Teng? That question has been asked since the early 2010s. During that period, the debate had been hotly contested as Ravena and Teng lorded over UAAP basketball playing for the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the DLSU Green Archers, respectively.
The former King Eagle won two UAAP crowns and just as many MVP trophies. Not to be outdone, the former King Archer also won two UAAP chips and a couple of Finals MVP plums. By simply looking at their collegiate hoops credentials, one cannot definitively tell who’s got the upper hand.
All that being said, the best way to know who’s the superior hooper between Ravena and Teng is to see them duke it out on the hardwood, mano a mano. And that’s exactly what they did at the Fitness Army Gym in Quezon City.
On Sunday night, TrueFocus Basketball's Instagram page shared several clips from the showdown between the old adversaries.
Ravena and Teng seemed to match-up pretty well in terms of strength and skill. They took turns hitting shots over each other’s defense. And they both knew what counter moves to use against one another. Based on the snippets, it’s still not crystal clear who’s better, in a one-on-one setting at least.
When they got to the pros, it seemed Kiefer’s game translated better than his rival’s. In his four years in the PBA with the NLEX Road Warriors, Ravena was stellar across the board, averaging 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.
Teng meanwhile, averaged 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists through five PBA seasons, suiting up for the Alaska Aces and the Converge FiberXers.
At the moment, Manong Kiefer is making a name for himself in the Japan B.League as a member of the Shiga Lakes, while Teng is tasked to get buckets for the FiberXers.
