BANGKOK — Islay Bomogao and LJ Yasay added to the Philippines’ gold medal haul on the last day of Muay action by emerging victorious over their respective foes in combat at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium here on Wednesday afternoon, December 17.

Bomogao, who is on a winning streak in her professional MMA career, outclassed local bet Arissara Noon-Eiad in the women’s 45kg final, two rounds to one as she won the first two stanzas before fading against a more desperate Noon-Eiad.

Despite the Thai’s efforts, which was also compounded by the home crowd’s support at the venue, Bomogao was able to hold her ground against the home favorite.

Bomogao saw it as redemption after falling short of the gold back in 2019.

“Ngayon po ulit finally, 'yung 2019 ko po na silver parang na-redeem ko ngayong 2025. Now that I'm older, more experienced, I have more muscles,” she quipped after the match.

She also won bronze in the women’s wai kru event.

This is her second SEA Games gold medal, winning the wai kru event in 2022.

Meanwhile, Yasay followed up Bomogao’s win with a victory of his own, knocking out Malaysia’s Insyad Rumijam in the second round of their final of the men’s 51kg event.

From the get-go, Yasay was the more aggressive fighter which helped him get the nod from four out of five judges in the opening stanza of their gold medal match.

The Filipino then left no doubt on his win by scoring the KO shortly after. Yasay shared that he stopped school for almost three years now.

"Grabe guys, lahat ng oras ko binubuhos ko sa pagiging atleta ko. Babawi tayo sa school guys," he told Cignal's Denisse Valdesancho.

Earlier in the day, Tyrone Jamborillo settled for the silver medal in the Men’s 45kg after falling against Krittanu Saladkaew of Thailand.

All in all, the Philippines hauled two golds, one silver, and four bronzes in muay action here at the SEA Games.
