Besides adding several silver medals, a host of bronze finishes across multiple disciplines highlighted an already busy day for the Philippines at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
The Philippines continued its medal march at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, adding three more silver medals to its growing tally.
Gymnast Haylee Garcia, taekwondo athlete Clarence Sarza, and athlete Yman Xavier Baluyo all claimed silver in their respective sports, complementing a slew of bronze medals captured by other Filipino athletes across multiple disciplines.
Garcia earned her silver on the uneven bars, scoring 12.333 in the Finals—improving on her 12.100 from the preliminaries—while Sarza settled for a runner-up finish after falling against her Thai opponent in the women’s -46 kg kyorugi division.
Baluyo showcased resilience in the men’s Ne-waza 69kg event, battling hard before finishing second to claim silver for the Philippines.
Bronze medals also continued to pour in throughout the day.
Marc Alexander Lim earned a podium finish e after winning the repechage in men’s Jiu-Jitsu Ne-waza 69kg, followed by Vito Luis Luzuriaga who captured bronze in the men’s Jiu-Jitsu Ne-waza 85kg repechage.
In cycling, young rider Mark Lowell Valderama powered his way to a bronze in the MTB Cross Country Eliminator event.
The duo of Baby Jhen Buzon and Mariane Mariano earned bronze in the women’s duo classic Jiu-Jitsu category, while the Filipino karate team of Jeremy Nopre, Felix Calipusan Jr., and Jodan Macalipay clinched bronze in the men’s team kata after defeating Myanmar.
Gymnast Justine Ace De Leon celebrated his first SEA Games podium finish in the men’s floor exercise, scoring 12.500 to claim bronze after three previous appearances in the prestigious tournament.
He then added another third-place finish after landing a score of 12.700 in the men’s artistic gymnastics rings event.
Sisters Leah Jhane and Ma. Jeanalane Lopez keep the medals coming with a bronze finish in Judo Ju-No-Kata, accumulating 374.5 points for the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Olympian and three-time SEA Games gold medalist Kurt Barbosa settled for bronze after losing to Vietnam in the men’s -54kg Taekwondo Kyorugi.
Gina Araos, Jean Claude Saclag, and Denzel John Alipio each bagged bronze in the women’s and men’s modern MMA events, while Giezel Daya secured bronze in the women’s traditional 54kg category.
However, these medals will not be added to the Philippines’ official count, as MMA is classified as a “value-added” or demonstration sport in SEA Games Thailand 2025.
As of this writing, Jiu-Jitsu medal rounds are underway, with the athletics and swimming’s medal events expected later in the evening.
