Leading from the front, Olympian Kayla Sanchez powered the Philippines to another gold — this time in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay event at the SEA Games 2025.
It was a golden swim indeed.
Team Philippines added another gold to their SEA Games 2025 medal haul, thanks to a stellar performance in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay on Wednesday, December 10.
Olympian Kayla Sanchez spearheaded the quartet, joined by Heather White, Chloe Isleta, and Xiandi Chua, as they clocked in a event-best 3:44.26.
Singapore settled for silver with a time of 3:46.53, while Vietnam claimed bronze at 3:47.47.
"It's very special [to represent the Philippines in the SEA Games.] I love all my teammates. My first race was a relay so it wasn't just me, and it's a team. They made less nervous and it was much more fun as a first race to be a relay," Sanchez said.
The Nationals’ success didn’t stop there as tanker Gian Christopher Santos copped silver in the men’s 200m individual medley event.
He clocked in at 2:03.88 to finish just behind gold-medal winner Hung Nguyen Tran of Vietnam, who turned in 2:02.11.
"I'm very happy with my swim. I know there's room for improvement but I'm gonna give myself a pat on a back," Santos said in an interview with Cignal.
