The Philippine men’s football team started its SEA Games 2025 Thailand campaign strong with a clean 2–0 win over Myanmar.
The Philippine men’s football team kicked off its 2025 Southeast Asian Games campaign on a high note, securing a 2–0 victory over Myanmar on Friday, December 5, at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiangmai.
The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when midfielder Alex Monis unleashed a powerful strike to open the scoring and give the Philippines an early 1–0 lead.
Myanmar pushed back aggressively after halftime, but the Filipinos doubled their advantage just five minutes into the second half.
A dangerous sequence inside the box forced a defensive miscue, resulting in a Myanmar own goal in the 50th minute that put the Philippines ahead 2–0.
Myanmar intensified its attacks in the latter stages, but the Philippine backline held firm, preserving the clean sheet and sealing the full three points.
The win gives the Philippines an early boost in Group A as they continue their hunt for a breakthrough SEA Games finish.
The next assignment will be Indonesia on December 8 as they vie for the top spot in the group.
