Petro Gazz ushers in a new era as Gary and Lisa Van Sickle, parents of Brooke Van Sickle, take charge as the team’s new head coach and assistant coach, respectively.
The Petro Gazz Angels have made a surprising move ahead of the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference, naming Gary and Lisa Van Sickle — parents of MVP Brooke Van Sickle — as head coach and assistant coach, respectively, of the team.
"They nurtured greatness at home, now they bring that same passion to the sidelines to guide our team to greater heights. The coaching tandem of the Van Sickles takes charge of the Angels," the team wrote in its post on Tuesday.
"Here’s for a new era! Welcome, Coach Gary and Coach Lisa."
Known for nurturing Brooke’s volleyball journey from the United States to the Philippines, the Van Sickles now bring that same dedication and passion to the PVL sidelines.
Gary, a University of Hawaii alumnus and former outside hitter, brings over 20 years of coaching experience, including championship runs and Junior Nationals bids with Excel teams in North Texas.
Lisa, a Hawaii Pacific University alumna and former professional player in Argentina and with the Hawaii Waves, adds also over 25 years of coaching, bagging multiple Open Division titles, and developing grassroots programs through her Aloha Ball Club NW.
Their appointment marks a unique moment in PVL history, with parents and their star daughter coaching and playing for one team.

The move signals a fresh start for Petro Gazz, as the Angels look to rebuild after the sudden departure of Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
Petro Gazz had also recently brought back American spiker Lindsey Vander Weide as the team’s import for the Reinforced Conference.
With Gary and Lisa at the helm, Petro Gazz is banking on trust, familiarity, and a renewed sense of unity to reclaim the Reinforced title.
