From battling a career-threatening knee injury to scoring the championship points for the PLDT High Speed Hitters, Kim Kianna Dy’s comeback in the PVL is a story of patience, pain, and perseverance.
For anyone who has ever been forced to stop doing what they love because of an injury, the wait can feel unbearable. Kim Kianna Dy knows that feeling all too well.
Her journey began with heartbreak in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference semifinals, when she suffered a right knee injury.
It was more than just a physical setback — it also meant sitting out the last stretch of her career with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers before their disbandment.
What followed was 559 days of patience, frustration, and small steps toward recovery. In One Sports' Off The Record, she admitted how difficult the process was:
“How do I be patient? Well, I haven’t been patient. I mean, it’s hard because this is the longest I haven’t been playing. Nakaka-miss when I see my teammates playing and it’s like when am I gonna play? But I mean, it’s all part of the process and I can’t rush things because baka mas lalo maging masama ‘yung injury. Now, we’re just taking it step by step.”

Those words hit home for many athletes who have been in her shoes. The days of watching from the sidelines, the longing to play again, and the fear of setbacks — Dy lived through it all.
“Past months have been hard. Some days you feel like giving up, but your will to get back on court will always be stronger,” she shared on TikTok.
Her supporters carried her through the wait. Fans left heartfelt messages online, while close friend and teammate Majoy Baron reminded her to keep fighting: “Laban lang swish.” Dy’s reply — “Wait for meee” — became a promise of a comeback.

That promise was fulfilled in January 2025, when she finally returned to action wearing PLDT colors, reunited with fellow former Lady Spikers Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, and Baron.

Then came the defining moments of her return. On August 17, 2025, Dy delivered the championship-clinching point against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the 2025 PVL on Tour.
Just two weeks later, on August 31, 2025, she struck again, sealing PLDT’s title against Kobe Shinwa University in the 2025 PVL Invitational Conference.
@kiannady_ Exactly two years ago, I was wearing a knee brace, not knowing when I’d be able to play again. Months went by, and people kept asking when I would return but honestly, I had no answer & wished I knew too. Being injured was one of if not the hardest challenge I’ve faced as an athlete. Sitting on the sidelines and not being able to help the team was one of the worst feelings ever. There were days when id get a glimpse of hope (to finally join court training!!) only to wake up the next day with a swollen knee.. lol.. it was tough 😭 But I knew I had to keep going because PLDT, my teammates, family and all our supporters were rooting and waiting for me. And here we are finally with two championships. What a journey it has been… and I’ve never been hungrier to go for more ???🔥
