The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles pull off another escape job after completing the reverse sweep against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 22–25, 20–25, 25–16, 25–17, 15–10, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday, August 5.
This marks the Thunderbelles’ fifth five-setter in the preseason tilt and their fourth victory, which went the distance.
In the winner-take-all fifth set, ZUS Coffee built an early 4-1 lead, which they would go on to hold behind the efforts of Chinnie Arroyo and Jovelyn Gonzaga.
The Thunderbelles would only extend their lead further at 11-6 after Gonzaga’s down-the-line attack.
With all the momentum in the match, Fiola Ceballos and AC Miner would put ZUS Coffee at match point before Gonzaga closed the game out to seal their quarterfinal slot.
Arroyo led the way for the Thunderbelles with 21 points built off 20 attacks and one service ace.
Up next for ZUS Coffee will be the unbeaten PLDT High Speed Hitters on Thursday, August 7, still at the PhilSports Arena.
