PLDT stayed unbeaten in the PVL on Tour with a dominant straight-sets victory over Petro Gazz, leaning on Jovy Prado and their veteran core to overpower the short-handed Angels.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters remained spotless in the PVL on Tour after a commanding 25-22, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of the undermanned Petro Gazz Angels at the Capital City Arena in Ilagan City on Saturday.
The High Speed Hitters improved to 2-0 without dropping a set in the preseason showcase, while the Angels slipped to 1-2 despite another gritty outing in the absence of MVPs Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips, who are still with Alas Pilipinas.
With PLDT only up 12-11 midway through the third set, veteran Jovy Prado sparked a 4-0 run that gave her team breathing room. The High Speed Hitters then went on a 9-2 finishing kick to seal the match.
Majoy Baron delivered the final blows, scoring the last two points to punctuate a dominant display from the middle.
Prado starred with 12 points and 13 excellent receptions, while Mika Reyes and Baron anchored the defense that neutralized Myla Pablo and the rest of the Petro Gazz offense.
The High Speed Hitters, who also continue to miss Savi Davison and Alas Pilipinas standouts Dell Palomata and Alleiah Malaluan, will eye their third straight win on Sunday against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
