Veterans stepped in to power Petro Gazz to a bounce back win against the Galeries Tower Highrisers in PVL on Tour.
Seasoned veterans answered the call for the Petro Gazz Angels, pacing the All-Filipino champions to a three-set victory over the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24, in PVL on Tour play at the Batangas City Sports Center on Sunday.
Petro Gazz fielded experienced playmakers Djanel Cheng and Chie Saet in the match after opting to give playing time to younger setters Donnalyn Paralejas and Jules Tolentino in their opener, while also giving more playing time to Aiza Maizo-Pontillas.
The changes proved pivotal as Petro Gazz drubbed an upset-minded Galeries Tower.
Late in set 3, Galeries Tower was ahead by three, 23-20, but untimely errors and clutch points from Nicole Tiamzon turned the tides as the Angels seized the lead and reach match point first.
While Jewel Encarnacion extended the set, the Highrisers shot themselves in the foot with a service error also from Encarnacion that put the Angels back at match point.
At that point, the Angels were not to be denied as Tiamzon provided another clutch hit to finish off their foes, helping Petro Gazz barge into the win column.
Joy Dacoron ended up with Player of the Game honors, finishing with 10 points built off of five attacks, two blocks, and three aces.
Petro Gazz thus leaves Batangas with a 1-1 slate while the Galeries Tower will continue searching for its first win in the preseason at 0-2.
