Roma Mae Doromal steps into her new role as Capital1 team captain, embracing the challenge of leadership in her second PVL season.
Now in her second year in the PVL, Roma Mae Doromal is taking on a new role and a new challenge as team captain of the retooled Capital1 Solar Spikers.
Doromal is stepping into the leadership role as the young squad navigates major changes under new head coach Jorge de Brito.
“I feel like there's a purpose talaga bakit ako 'yung napiling captain, and I super appreciate lang din na nakikita nila 'yung leadership ko inside the court, and really excited lang talaga to help the team and to push them kung paano ko sila ma-push pa,” Doromal told reporters.
The 24-year-old libero is no stranger to carrying the team captain tag, having led the Ateneo Blue Eagles back in UAAP Season 86.

Doromal, though, admits that leading a PVL team will be much different, but remains ready for the challenge as part of her growth.
“Super malaking challenge siya for me, pressure also, but inaano ko na good pressure siya kasi mag-grow pa ako as a player and mas matatanda na kasi 'yung nile-lead ko now,” she admitted.
“I think 'yun din siguro reason din para mag-grow pa talaga ako kasi I'm looking for growth. Super up lang ako talaga sa challenge.”

Unfortunately for Doromal, the Solar Spikers have yet to notch a win in the PVL on Tour, falling in straight sets to both the Creamline Cool Smashers and Cignal HD Spikers.
Despite the tough start, Doromal said the team remains upbeat and focused on improvement.
“Madami talaga kaming lapses na nangyari, but at the same time, we're positive and very eager kami to do a lot of things pa na kailangan namin i-improve sa training,” Doromal admitted.
“Sobrang nagta-trust lang kami talaga sa bagong system, and all of us are adjusting also sa new system, so it's a challenge talaga for us, pero we're very up to the challenge.”
