Heather Guino-o proved to be a crucial figure in the Cignal HD Spikers' straight-set win over the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the PVL on Tour.
VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR—Heather Guino-o proved to be a spark plug off the bench for the Cignal HD Spikers in their second game in the PVL on Tour.
Guino-o, who was signed earlier in the offseason, delivered eight points to help the HD Spikers complete a flawless sweep over the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16, at the Chavit Coliseum here in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Monday, June 23.
“’Yun nga po na mas makatulong sa team ngayon pong sinabi ni coach Shaq na dapat po ready kami,” Guino-o told reporters. “Kung ano pong magiging kulang, kailangan pong punan.”
The win capped off Cignal’s two-game sweep in Vigan, as they moved atop Pool B with a 2-0 record.
And while the match marked a showdown against her former team, Guino-o said there were no personal motivations involved.
“Hindi, wala naman po. Parang lahat ng makakalaban mas motivated kami,” she said.
Guino-o also credited her smooth adjustment to the team’s familiar system, with many of her Cignal teammates and head coach Shaq Delos Santos coming from the FEU volleyball program.
“Yes po, kasi lalo na po karamihan ng nasa Cignal FEU tapos program din ni coach Shaq,” she shared. “So hindi naman po sobrang hirap mag-adjust.”
Coach Shaq, meanwhile, praised his squad’s growing confidence and ability to translate practice work into game-time execution.
“Lagi ko namang sinasabi everytime na nananalo kami, sobrang happy and proud dahil nagde-deliver sila,” said Delos Santos. “’Yung effort nila pagdating ng training naa-apply nila sa game. Hopefully, mas ma-improve pa namin dahil ‘yung last three games namin this eliminations mas magiging matindi.”
The HD Spikers will have a week to prepare for their next match against the Creamline Cool Smashers at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
