Legendary coach Roger Gorayeb has been appointed consultant for Strong Group Athletics’ girls’ and women’s volleyball programs.
Strong Group Athletics has officially tapped legendary mentor Coach Roger Gorayeb as consultant for its girls’ and women’s volleyball programs, the organization announced on Thursday, June 5.
The 39-time NCAA champion coach was formally welcomed by Strong Group chairman Frank Lao and volleyball program manager Kiara Cruz, marking a new chapter in Gorayeb’s storied career, this time focused on mentoring the next generation of athletes.
Gorayeb, who previously coached the Capital1 Solar Spikers, admitted the transition was tough, but the new opportunity has reignited his passion to teach and develop young talent.
“Masaya ako kasi mayroon pa palang nagtitiwala sa akin,” Gorayeb said during the signing. “Passion ko talaga magturo ng mga bata. Super saya.”
Under his new role, Gorayeb will provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes from Strong Group-supported schools, including the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, College of Saint Benilde, and Letran.
Cruz emphasized the value of Gorayeb’s leadership and legacy in Philippine volleyball.
“It’s truly an honor to have Coach Roger Gorayeb guiding our student-athletes. His wealth of experience and championship pedigree will be an incredible asset to all our teams, both on and off the court.”
Gorayeb’s resume speaks volumes—22 NCAA women’s indoor volleyball titles, 11 high school championships, six beach volleyball crowns, and a V-League Grand Slam in 2014, making him one of the most accomplished coaches in the country.
The consultancy role reportedly comes with no fixed end date, with SGA stating “for as long as he can mentor our athletes”.
