Lyann De Guzman is entering the 2025 PVL Draft with hopes of contributing leadership and embracing new learning experiences after her UAAP run with Ateneo.
Ateneo standout Lyann De Guzman is looking to bring her leadership to the professional ranks.
The former Blue Eagle admitted that part of her still wanted to use up her final year in the UAAP, but the call to the PVL Draft was stronger.
De Guzman even hinted at the possibility of using her final year of eligibility after Ateneo’s last match in Season 87.
“Siyempre for me, gusto ko pa rin naman mag-one more year pero it’s time na rin naman ng next level ng journey ko,” said De Guzman. “I’m very happy kasi supportive pa rin sila, ‘yung mga coaches ko sa Ateneo, na magtuloy ako sa drafting.”
Of Ateneo’s core, only De Guzman and middle blocker AC Miner opted to go pro this year.
“Separate decision talaga kami,” she shared. “Kaniya-kaniya kaming desisyon kasi siyempre, we have different naman na outside lives na kung ano kailangan namin, ganiyan.”

While others might lean on scoring or athleticism, De Guzman believes her biggest asset is her voice and maturity on the floor.
Under her leadership, De Guzman led Ateneo to a respectable 5-9 record even after an injury-riddled season.
“Sabi ko nga sa mga ibang interviews ko, leadership talaga. Feeling ko 'yun ‘yung pinaka-strong suit ko talaga. To help the team.”
De Guzman is also embracing the challenge of entering a completely new environment once drafted, eager to grow as both a player and a teammate.
As the PVL Draft draws near, De Guzman is prepared to bring to any team willing to take a chance on her.
“Sa mapupuntahan kong team, if ever, different environment and I’m very excited din kasi new learning opportunities din 'yung darating sa’kin.”
