Criss Cross King Crunchers hitter Jude Garcia will be the biggest star of the night for men’s volleyball at the PVL Press Corps Awards.
Individual accolades continue to rain down on Criss Cross’ Jude Garcia after he was named the Most Valuable Player of the PVL Press Corps for their first-ever awards night slated later this month at Novotel in Quezon City.
Garcia, who powered Criss Cross to the Finals in the past three Spikers’ Turf conferences, was the choice for scribes from print and online who cover the league to spearhead the men’s volleyball contingent at the inaugural event.
En route to the Open Conference finals, Garcia finished second in scoring with 200 points, built off of 161 attacks, 32 blocks, and seven service aces to lead the King Crunchers to a 13-0 sweep to reach the championship round.
Despite missing out on the title in a three-game loss to Cignal, Garcia remained to be the top performer among his contemporaries, ranking second in spiking with a 46% success rate. He was also the league’s leading blocker.
Apart from being MVP, Garcia is also part of the Mythical Team as one of the two Best Outside Hitters. During the Invitational Conference, he finished with a season-high 150 points with an equally impressive 53.88% success rate.
Joining Garcia in the Mythical Team are his King Crunchers teammates Ish Polvorosa and Gian Glorioso, being named as Best Setter and Best Middle Blocker, respectively.
Cignal’s Steven Rotter, who was also the Finals MVP and the Best Opposite Spiker during the Open Conference is also included among the awardees after leading the HD Spikers to another title run in the men’s volleyball club league.
Rotter’s teammate Vince Lorenzo is named Best Libero after clinching the same accolade twice in the two past conferences as well.
Savouge Spin Doctors also received representation in the Mythical Team with Sherwin Caritavito earning the second Best Outside Hitter award and Giles Torres completes the list as the other middle blocker.
