Creamline Cool Smashers star Michele Gumabao earned her first Most Valuable Player (MVP) award during the 2024 PVL Invitational Conference on Thursday, September 12.

Gumabao, a three-time PVL Best Opposite Spiker awardee, led all local players in scoring during the week-long tournament, amassing 59 points from 52 spikes, four service aces, and three blocks.

Her performance was especially impressive, with a 37.96 percent attack success rate, the second-highest in the league. She also ranked fourth in serving, averaging 0.29 aces per set.

The 32-year-old opposite hitter came up big to give the Cool Smashers an undefeated record heading into the final against the Cignal HD Spikers, where they ultimately fell short of the historic grand slam.

Her Creamline teammates, Kyle Negrito, emerged as the Best Setter, while import Erica Staunton bagged one of the Best Outside Hitter award.

Meanwhile, Cignal’s MJ Perez shared the Best Outside Hitter recognition with Staunton. Fellow HD Spiker Jackie Acuña and Kurashiki Ablaze’s Low Mei Cing were named Best Middle Blockers.

Kurashiki’s Saya Taniguchi earned the Best Opposite Spiker award, while rounding out the All-PVL team is Khamwong Kalyarat of Est Cola, who bagged the Best Libero.
