PVL: Des Clemente attributes resurgence in Capital1 to coach Roger Gorayeb

Des Clemente had quite the resurgence for the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.

Motivated to bounce back from their straight-set loss against the Farm Fresh Foxies, Clemente was hailed the Player of the Game after her 14-point outing against the Galeries Tower Highrisers.

“Last game kasi medyo hindi ganun ka-okay ‘yung performance ko so gusto kong bumawi simula next game hanggang sa mga susunod naming games,” Clemente said duirng the post-game press conference.

The 6-foot-2 middle blocker has been vital for the Solar Spikers throughout the conference, providing her steady defense and timely quick attacks.

For Clemente, her growth as a player can be attributed to none other than coach Roger Gorayeb.

“I would give credit talaga kay coach Roger personally kasi sa mga past team ko, inuna niya talaga i-build sakin talaga ‘yung confidence ko,” Clemente shared. “Dun talaga siya nag-start kasi once na-build na ‘yung confidence ko, dirediretso na ‘yan.”

Bouncing around teams in the past, Clemente is happy to have found the right coach for her, vowing to give her all in each game for Capital1.

“Sobrang happy ko under coach Roger kasi pinaparamdam niya ‘yung full trust niya so parang ako, bibihira ‘yung ganung coach. Ang tagal kong hinanap ‘yon. Ngayon ko lang natagpuan ‘yung coach na grabe ‘yung trust sakin so parang tinrabaho ko rin talaga and tulong-tulong kami sa loob,” said Clemente.

With a quarterfinal slot already secured, the Solar Spikers will begin preparing for the knockout round, where they look to continue their impressive run in the tournament.

“Sobrang nakaka-build talaga ng confidence itong nangyayari samin ngayon. Mga unexpected pero pinagtatrabahuan namin, as in tulong-tulong kami,” said Clemente.

“Ang goal talaga namin this conference is one set a time kasi mas eager and gusto lang din namin tulungan si Marina [Tushova] at mas umangat pa ‘yung team,” she added.
